Music on Muslim Wedding Day
A Phenomenon on one fine Friday
Back then, when I was attending my course, there's a theory conceptualizes that there are individualist and socialist culture. It says, the individualists have a tendency to be socialists as they know how hurt it would be if they are not treated as good individuals. Then they would possibly respect other individuals. In contrast, the second culture, people are considered socialists, "eating not eating, the most important thing is gathering" (loh terjemahan macam apa nih, terjemahan bebas..bebaas sekali). But this socialist culture in fact has created its people to be individualists. How..how come?!
Yes, definitely I can see it now.
Try to imagine! You live in one neighbourhood with majority of people having different habit, different preference, and different definition on how you live your life. Nearly every week, they have what is so called as hajatan (read: mantenan n sunatan) ah, again I have problem with these two things. What annoys me a lot is the music, yes the music, it's too LOUD! It starts from morning till late in the evening. You have no choice not to listen to dangdut lapangan and such, campursari and such, kleningan and such. The lyrics even erotize listeners. Oh dear, it's Jumuah, which Allah's blessing are you hoping for if ur music has obviously displeased Him. And today you will read Al-Kahfi with music as back sound. So why none problematize this? Yes, because everyone enjoys it but me. Arrrgh
Islamic Rules about Music?
Surely I know the reason why walimatul 'urs should be celebrated, because the newly married couple should be announced otherwise it would be dangerous, may invite fitnah. But still, I cant see the reason why khitan should have the walimah, people in my culture call it walimatul khitan. If only it has any reference in the Books, I would love to find one. So, why parents want to proclaim their sons have been circumcised?
Thereby, I know now that socialists culture may creat egocentrism. People tend to disregard the feeling of those minors. Dear minors, even if you are profoundly right-minded-men, still, you ll become the target of bullying of those mainstreams. Isn't this Democracy? The major voice has become God's ultimate judgement. And yes, they are all now populists.
Also, at least I know now why there are narrations (read: hadits) saying Music is unlawful, forbidden, illegitimate.
Aha, am a bit reluctant to put the word 'Haram' above there as I can possibly be the target of bullying. So, to Westernise the term would make me trouble-free.
What Muslim Should Do in Regards to Music?
If some Muslims still cannot avoid music, they are suggested to not play their playlist or radio in a high volume. This is tolerance, isn't it?
