What Asia Can
Learn from Philippines about English Education
By Amy Chavez
Summary:
Philippines has
been recorded as a country that concern on its English education. For instance,
Philippines has put English as its official language beside Filipino language.
As a result, it has been validly reported by Educational Testing Service (ETS)
that the Philippines ranked 35th out of 163 countries across the
world. What is actually so good with the Philippines system in English
education? In its course of history, Philippines was imposed to the colonial of
the U.S in 1898-1946. Through this, Philippines take English legacy into
serious account so that it is implemented not only in English education but
more emphasises on daily routines. Thus, this is the point, giving more
exposures to English outside the classroom and making English as a real life
experience have been passionately applied in Philippines. So, it is true what
was stated by Amy Chavez, the writer of this article, that he was impressed
seeing people of Philippines fluently speak English even never stepping outside
the Philippines itself.
