Japan’s ‘Global Education’:Learning English is Not a Magic Wand

Japan is a country popular with its self-discipline and surely cartoon industries. This has driven Japan as one of tourism destinations for many teenagers. However, this country is still lack in some aspects, especially in the way of thinking and English education.

 In thinking concept, Japan is often considered as not having straightforward thinking. This is not always true, but this happens culturally because the people are not used to have opportunity to convey their personal opinion at home even at school. Therefore, this has led Japanese into the lack of critical thinking. The people are actually smart enough but not that critical on various issues. In addition, Japanese are still struggling with their English education. Meanwhile, it has been well known that Japanese industries are popular across the globe. To build global company’s identity, Japanese employers are seeking for Japanese graduates who are skillful in English. However, finding the Japanese who has outstanding ability in English is still hard to do. Even though learning English is not a magic wand to create Japanese students more creative and communicative, it can become the driving force for the students to clearly convey their personal opinion and become more critical on certain issues.
